Tips on maximising muscle recovery

Whether it’s a calf cramp from a major leg day or a minor injury from a new fitness hobby, sometimes the next-day soreness hits harder than others. You know the feeling: you wake up, and the first step you take, there it is — tightness all over.

There's no better way to help heal your body from aches and stiffness than eating healthy and a good night sleep. But, we’re sharing remedies and recommendations that might help speed up the recovery process.

💪 Increase your magnesium intake! Without enough magnesium, muscles can't properly relax. Often it is dissolved in water to treat stress and sore muscles. It'll contribute to flexibility and help prevent injury by loosening your tight muscles.

💪 Have a bath with salt soaks! Bath salts can help with muscle aches by relaxing tense muscles and reducing inflammation. The mix of a warm water and salts will help with loosening your stiff joints and help relieve the pain.

💪 Consume enough protein! Whether it's protein powder or your fave protein loaded meals, it important to eat enough protein to make up for your damaged muscle fibres after a workout.

💪 Stay hydrated! Dehydration can impair your muscles' ability to repair themselves. Drinking water will speed up recovery time and minimise the feelings of soreness — removing toxins from your body, and keeping your muscles in proper working order.

💪 Get a massage! Although a professional is great, sometimes all you need is a quick massage from a partner or a friend. It'll improve your flexibility and decrease any further muscle soreness. Even a foam roller or a tennis ball can do wonders!

The amount of time it takes for your muscles to recover from exercise depends on your fitness levels and the difficulty of your workout. It’s important to give your body time to recover fully after a workout. While you’re exercising, you create damage to your muscles. It’s only during the recovery period that your muscles can repair the tiny tears that form during exercise. So look after yourself!
